- In Colorado, the Governor signed into law the Claire Davis Safety Act. The new law makes public schools in Colorado legally liable for student safety. School districts have always been listed as government entities that can’t be sued for negligence. The new law eliminates this immunity. [Senate Bill 213].
- In Massachusetts, H 447 has been introduced to the Joint Committee on Education. It requires educators to immediately notify public safety officials when they receive bomb threats.
- In Florida, House Bill 41 has become law. It requires school boards, cities, and counties to work together to identify hazardous walking conditions for students on their way to school. The law creates a duty on local officials to correct the conditions.
- In Oregon, the legislature unanimously passed and sent to the Governor legislation that requires that schools conduct instruction and drills on safety threats including lock-downs and lockouts. [HB 2661].
