- The Missouri legislature voted to override Gov. Nixon’s veto of a law that would allow school districts to designate teachers or administrators to have guns in school as school safety officers. But school administrators and superintendents are refusing to allow their teachers to carry guns.
- In Florida, the Manatee County School Board has hired 32 armed officers from a private security company to protect the schools. The response of the Palmetto Police Department was to provide one school resource officer to an elementary school for the 2014-15 year free of charge.
- Greenville, North Carolina police officers have started to volunteer their time in local schools to make sure that all schools in the city are covered.
- Colorado law allows for school campus security personnel to be armed. They have no legal authority to arrest someone, but they can make a citizen’s arrest and detain someone suspected of a crime. The Colorado Springs School District gives security guards the option to decide whether or not to be armed.
